Albuquerque, NM to Amarillo, TX
We stopped in Santa Rosa, NM for lunch (pop. 2,744 elev. 4,599). We had a noon breakfast in a locally owned diner on Route 66. We were too late for breakfast but the elderly gentleman owner flexed and I had my craving for eggs satisfied. Plus I indulged in chocolate milk and decaf coffee.
We had spent a night in Santa Rosa before so I had my heart set on going to the Blue Hole, an artesian spring 87 feet deep and 60 feet in diameter. The 65 degree water is filled with gold fish and attracts scuba divers and people like me who watch scuba divers. I was surprised when we got there that it was fenced off and a sign said that it was closed for repairs. We saw kids jumping in and shivering as they climbed out. Photo shows two sets of bubbles of two kids who had just jumped in. We walked around and as it was 98 degrees we didn’t stay too long. The water is very salty I’m told. Settled in for the night and Curt Schilling is pitching for the Red Sox on TV. Perfect ending to a busy day. I also plan to do some hand quilting to help settle me down from the vibrations of the road.
