Amarillo, TX to Oklahoma City, OK

The landscape change from earth tones to green tones was gradual but exciting. I had forgotten how much I love green. When I walked this morning and lawn sprinklers were all bursting with the high wind spraying the water much further than it was intended, I reveled in green. Our hotel was close to an industrial park so I walked between buildings with many flowers blooming. Some miniature wildflowers in the ditch were as fascinating. (See photo)
We stopped at a rest stop east of Amarillo that had a wireless connection and a tornado shelter. I went in the shelter and there were four large posters of photographs of tornadoes that also spelled out distinctions between tornado watches and warnings.
Route 66 is a big deal and both Texas and Oklahoma cash in on it. I imagine other states do as well. We ate at a Flying J restaurant and as we were leaving, staff stood surrounding an elderly man who was looking very pale. I stopped to see if I could be of assistance and found out that one woman was also a nurse and that the ambulance had been called. Not sure what was happening but I suggested that the man sit down to wait in stead of standing. Everyone agreed that it might be a good idea.
My big news is that I fell in love with an antique quilt top at the Indian Trading Post about 30 miles west of Oklahoma City. It has amazing colors and the vintage fabrics give you a glimpse into the past. After … debating … and futzing … and thinking over my budget, I bought it for $58. Driving away I knew I had made the right decision. I’m just learning quilting and think I can make this top into a beautiful quilt. Maybe a wall hanging. ![]()
We’ve stopped for the night. Each of us on our computers … the air conditioner pumping away keeping the 98 degree heat outside and us happy, cool and content.
