Exotic purpleMy day started at the Myriad Botanical Garden in Oklahoma City, while my husband went to the beautifully serene memorial to those killed in the Oklahoma City bombing. Last year we both were deeply moved by the three-acre site that includes remnants of the original building destroyed in 1995.

Bird's Eye of Paradise

I am stilled beyond words with flowers. Enjoy these few photos (I took over 50). Red flower

Didn’t realize we’re close to a nuclear power plant until we found the evacuation instructions in the room.

All is well. Yellow flower

Amazon Parrot

This morning after I had become intoxicated with the tropical plant expedition at Myriad Botanical Gardens, I harmonized with Muffin, an Amazon parrot. Harmonize is not completely accurate. In fact it is far from accurate. I was moved to sing … create non-verbal shamanic sounds to Muffin and his pal, Bo. The two birds that had seemed a bit dull became riveted by the "noise" … cocking their heads first one way, then another, they leaned towards me (they were sitting on top of their cage). After a few minutes, Muffin began stretching his neck and making soft sounds. Both birds apparently have a large vocabulary but neither spoke a word as I continued to sing. All of a sudden Muffin gave me a look that seemed to say, "Let’s jam," and began to sing … it was not melodic but beautiful just the same.

This spring I had read a story in a birder magazine about a musician who played his flute to birds and the birds harmonized. I’m sorry that I can’t reference the article because I was deeply moved by the story.
