wild roseLast night I talked with Chris, Jennifer’s husband. Jennifer got out of hospital Saturday and is back in the guesthouse in Tucson. With her brace on, she can walk to the bathroom and hold her daughter on her lap. She is eating a little bit. The plan is 6 weeks of rehab. pear

Thank you forever for your prayers. Deep in my soul, I know they are moving in ways we may never understand. Last week I did two watercolors (blue on blue on white … looked like wispy clouds … maybe? :) . I wrote all your names on them so she would see who was praying for her.

Sondra in a Thai prisonJuly 22, 2006 11:11 am

For over a year I’ve been writing Sondra Davis, an American 49-year-old woman, who is in her 3rd year of a 30 year-sentence for heroin possession for her own use (6,000 women in this prison). I read about her in a local Tucson publication, The Desert Leaf. Lily between fence

The U.S. -Thailand Transfer treaty became effective in 1982 and hopefully she can survive the very harsh conditions and be back in the U.S. where she can eventually be free. Just recently the prison officials made a new rule that prisoners can no longer receive books and magazines. There is a complicated system about the U.S. embassy bringing a couple of books. The embassy only comes once in 3 or so months and last time forgot to bring any books. If you are going to Thailand and want to take her some books, you must check in with the US embassy and find out the best way to deliver them.

Reading is one of the only ways Sondra has been staying sane (her words). My thought is … If I can find some more friends to write her, then she’ll have reading material and also know that other people are thinking about her. Lily 5

If you think feel moved to write or send a postcard to Sondra, please do so at the following address:

Sondra Davis

c/o Central Women’s correctional Institute 33/3 Ngamwongwan Road, Lad Yao, Chatajak, Bangkok, Thailand 10900

All the mail is censored going in and out of the prison so please do not ask or comment about the conditions of the prison. She gets no news and loves to hear what is going on. Feel free to tell her about your life, passions, angsts, and just who you are and what brings you a smile. Even a post card would be appreciated. Postal rate for 1st class letter is: 84 Cents and post card: 75 cents

A book Sondra recommends is:

Forget you Had a Daughter: Doing Time in the "Bankok Hilton" Sandra Gregory’s Story by Sandra Gregory

Another lilyThank you for taking the time to read this information and consider my request.

I will post updates about Sondra from my letters. Please feel free to pass this information on to friends or groups that might be interested.

Eye on Ewe

Last week I saw an unusual sheep at Berkshire Eye Center. In 2004 there was an auction of art sheep. http://www.flickr.com/photos/50956894@N00/127431635/

I have more photos (courtesy of my friend, Delsie) if you’d like one.
